Sunday, January 28, 2007 - Sunday, April 22, 2007
Bradford Washburn's career as an aerial landscape photographer spanned six decades; his service as the director of the Museum of Science, Boston lasted 40 years. Now, rediscover the man and his images in a grand new way. Panopticon Gallery has created a traveling exhibition featuring 20 of Washburn's favorite works in unique, forty-by-fifty-inch digital prints.
Ansel Adams once wrote: "Bradford Washburn is one of the very few people who have combined spectacular experience in the wilderness with equally spectacular achievements in the world of civilization. One never knows what next to expect from this roving genius of mind and mountains."
Washburn approached photography as the explorer and mountaineer he was. His innovative techniques were spectacular and daring; the resulting black-and-white wilderness landscapes are breathtaking in their simplicity and elegance.
